Dressing for Court: Women
There is often so much that goes into preparing for and working through a divorce that it’s easy to forget about the little things which can ultimately color how a divorce court judge thinks of you. Properly dressing for court is an important and often overlooked part of divorce proceedings. Women in particular are sometimes confused about what to wear in court. While men are expected to wear a suit and tie, the choices available to women are a lot less clear.
The West Palm Beach divorce attorneys of Eric N. Klein & Associates, P.A., understand how important your divorce proceedings are. To learn more about how our experience and dedication can help you, contact us today by calling 561-353-2800.
Dressing for Your Court Appearance
When you’re in court, it’s important to present yourself as responsible and mature. The way you dress can convey a lot about you, for good or for bad. Judges like to see that the people appearing before them properly respect the court, and dressing appropriately is a large part of this.
Because the decisions of a divorce court shape the most important aspects of your life (property division, child custody, alimony and child support payments, to name just a few), it’s especially important to present yourself well. Some dressing tips include:
- Dress professionally. Dressing like a professional conveys an air of responsibility and respect. In general, it’s a good rule of thumb to dress as though you’re going to a job interview. Suits, skirts, and trousers with appropriate blouses are all good choices.
- Dress conservatively. Opt for dark colors and a minimum of flash. Overly extravagant outfits convey the wrong message.
- Groom well. Grooming yourself well on the day of your court appearance shows that you take care of yourself and have the personal responsibility that goes with that.
