What is Summary Divorce?

Often called “simple divorce,” summary divorce is an option available in some jurisdictions that provides for a clean and quick divorce process. Couples need to meet certain qualifications, namely:

• The marriage was short (usually less than five years)
• There are no children (conversely, issues involving children have already been resolved)
• No realty property or debts (such as houses and mortgages)
• Low value of marital property (usually less than $35,000)

If the spouses meet these conditions, they may be eligible for a much easier, less messy divorce.
